These are a few terms that will help you understand this section better before you start configuring your review cycle.

1. What is a Reviewer Label?

The Reviewer Label refers to the title given to the person who is providing feedback in the review cycle.
For example, a reviewer can be a Skip Manager, or even a Dotted Manager depending on your organization’s setup.

2. What is a Reviewee Label?

The Reviewee Label is the title assigned to the person being reviewed in the cycle.
Common examples include Employee, Team Member, or Contributor.

3. Why would someone need additional reviewer roles?

In addition to the standard reviewer types (such as self, manager, direct report, or peer reviews), there may be situations where you want reviewees to be evaluated by someone other than the default reviewers. Peoplebox provides the flexibility to add Custom Reviewer roles to support these scenarios.

4. What are the use cases for additional reviewer roles?

Here are a few common scenarios where additional reviewer roles are useful:

  • Skip Manager Review:
A skip manager (the manager’s manager) can provide an additional layer of feedback to ensure alignment and cross-team consistency.
Example: “Skip Manager” as Reviewer → “Employee” as Reviewee.

  • Project-Based or Cross-Functional Review:
When employees collaborate across teams or projects, feedback from another team’s lead or member can offer a broader perspective.
Example: “Project Reviewer” as Reviewer → “Contributor” as Reviewee.
